Hi! My name is Allisa Giannini, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
For the past two decades, I've had the privilege of partnering with individuals and families on their journey to well-being. My background is rooted in attachment theory (I wrote my Master's thesis on the subject), which informs my collaborative work across all life stages.I specialize in supporting women navigating significant life transitions, focusing on healing from trauma, managing anxiety, establishing clear boundaries, and maintaining essential self-care. A core part of my work is helping clients build an internal sense of safety—learning to trust their instincts even when faced with others' disapproval or unhappiness. This focus is particularly vital for:
I welcome individuals to work with me to address life transitions, parenting concerns, and the establishment of healthy boundaries to protect their energy and well-being, fostering clear communication and personal harmony. I am happy to work individually or in family sessions as needed.
Specialized Expertise and Therapeutic Approach
In addition to my foundational training, I have pursued specialized education to better serve my clients. I completed advanced training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International (PSI), and I have achieved certifications as an Anxiety Treatment Professional, a Certified Grief-Informed Professional, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). My training also includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I was formerly a member of the Ventura County Maternal Mental Health Coalition, and I maintain close working relationships with psychiatrists, medical doctors, and primary care providers, as well as birthing centers in Southern California, to ensure comprehensive and integrated care for my clients.
My clinical experience is wide-ranging: I've worked as a First 5 therapist, a K-8 school-based therapist, a clinic-based therapist for children, teens, young adults, families, and women, and a clinical case manager for teens with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED). I currently maintain a private practice. I have broad experience working with children, teens, families, young adults, and women and welcome the opportunity to help you or your family with whatever struggles you may currently be facing.
My therapeutic style is integrative, meaning I draw from many different theories to match my approach with each unique individual I work with. Some of the models I find most helpful are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including CBT, TF-CBT, and Exposure Therapy), Family Systems theory, Attachment theory, and Psychodynamic theory. I also utilize somatic experiencing methods and principles from Polyvagal Theory to help clients understand and regulate their nervous systems. I also focus on problem-solving, communication, anger management skills, relationship skills, healthy boundary setting and healthy feeling expression when working with individuals.
Throughout my career as an MFT, I have been continually amazed by the resilience and strength of human beings and feel honored to be included in their healing process.
